Blues Brothers animated series in the works from Dan Aykroyd

May 4, 2016 by James Garcia

According to THR, the Blues Brothers are back, this time for a primetime animated mission from God. Dan Aykroyd, Judy Belushi and Saturday Night Live writer Anne Beatts will co-create and executive produce the series, along with the fine folks at Bento Box Entertainment (Bob’s Burgers).

The new series will follow Jake and Elwood Blues, who take their act on the road as they head back to Chicago. According to the new report, each episode will feature “a score and soundtrack curated with the soul, blues and R&B classics and hits performed by the Blues Brothers, as well as new performances made specifically for the show.” There will also, naturally, be room for special guest appearances from “aspiring talent, treasured Blues legends and modern-day superstars.”

Here’s what Aykroyd had to say about the new show:

“It’s so great to accelerate Jake and Elwood at digital speed into the 21st Century via the outstanding creative group at Bento Box. The show will be the Blues Brothers living in America and utilizing all new technology to make and promote their own records, seek out and record new artists and avoid law enforcement – and all while fighting for truth, justice and a better breakfast sandwich.”

The new Blues Brothers series will be aimed at young adults, and will be shopped around to various TV platforms this month.
