Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke reportedly in talks for Mary Poppins Returns

August 7, 2016 by Gary Collinson

According to E! Online, both Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke are in talks to appear in Walt Disney Pictures’ upcoming Mary Poppins sequel Mary Poppins Returns.

The duo both starred in the 1964 original, with Andrews portraying Mary Poppins and Van Dyke as her love interest, chimney sweeper Bert. Emily Blunt is set to take on the title role in the new movie, reuniting with her Into the Woods director Rob Marshall, while Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda will portray lamplighter called Jack and Meryl Streep is also on board as Poppins’ cousin Topsy.

In Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

Mary Poppins Returns is set to hit cinemas on December 25th, 2018.
