The LEGO Ninjago Movie adds Justin Theroux and Olivia Munn

August 12, 2016 by Justin Cook

While the majority of the voice cast for The LEGO Ninjago Movie was revealed back in June, Warner Bros. has just brought two more actors into the mix. According to the studio, Justin Theroux and Olivia Munn have joined the cast of the film to voice characters named Garmadon and Koko, respectively.

Garmadon, described as “the Worst Guy Ever,” is an evil warlord who also happens to be the father of one of the film’s main protagonists, Dave Franco’s Lloyd, and winds up having to fight his son in an “epic showdown” for Ninjago City; on the other hand, Koko is Lloyd’s mother.

The rest of the cast includes Jackie Chan as the wise-cracking Master Wu, Fred Armisen as Cole, Abbi Jacobson as Nya, Kumail Nanjiani as Jay, Michael Peña as Kai and Zach Woods as Zane.

Munn has had a fairly big year, starring in two films that brought in quite a bit of box office dough despite negative reviews, Ride Along 2 and X-Men: Apocalypse. The actress still has Office Christmas Party on the horizon this year, which happens to star Theroux’s wife, Jennifer Aniston.

Theroux is coming off of a much-praised second season of HBO’s The Leftovers and has been busy at work on shooting season 3. Coincidentally, both him and Munn also appeared in this year’s long-awaited but generally disappointing Zoolander 2.

Ninjago is the story of six young ninja tasked with defending their island home, called Ninjago. By night, they’re gifted warriors, using their skills and awesome fleet of vehicles to fight villains and monsters. By day, they’re ordinary teens struggling against their greatest enemy: high school.

Charlie Bean will direct the second spin-off effort to come from 2014’s The LEGO Movie; the first spin-off, The LEGO Batman Movie, is being released early next year. The LEGO Ninjago Movie is set to hit theaters on September 22nd, 2017.
