Legion can connect to X-Men movie universe, says Noah Hawley

January 25, 2017 by Samuel Brace

A couple of weeks ago, Legion showrunner Noah Hawley teased the fact that his new show could connect with the wider X-Men world, and now he has spoken again on the topic.

Speaking to Variety, the man also behind FX critical darling Fargo went into further detail about his feelings with regards to the show crossing over with other X-Men characters.

“I think it’s important for us to establish this as a fully realized world with fully realized characters. It does connect and it can connect, but I’m not relying on that. I have to prove myself. I have to prove that the show is good enough to incorporate those elements from the movie world, if that were ever possible”.

He certainly seems interested in the idea but gives the impression that he would rather his story about Charles Xavier’s mutant son stand on its own two feet without relying on more famous characters to prop it up.

Hawley also mentioned the difficulties that incorporating the more infamous mutants to his TV show would bring.

“It’s sort of a non-starter to say James McAvoy’s going to be in my show. I’m not saying never, but certainly not in the first year of it. You’d have to pay those guys so much money to begin with. You’d have to pay them movie money in a different medium”.

Legion is the story of a troubled young man who may be more than human. It introduces the story of David Haller, who since he was a teenager, has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

Legion is set to premiere on February 8th, 2017 and stars Dan Stevens (The Guest), Rachel Keller (Fargo), Jean Smart (Fargo), Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation), Jeremie Harris (A Walk Among the Tombstones), Amber Midthunder (Hell or High Water), Katie Aselton (The League), Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows) and Bill Irwin (Interstellar).
