Cress Williams to play Black Lightning in new DC pilot at The CW

February 24, 2017 by Gary Collinson

Having secured a pilot order from The CW earlier this month, Greg Berlanti’s latest DC pilot Black Lightning has found its lead, with THR reporting that Cress Williams (Hart of Dixie) has signed on for the lead role of Jefferson Pierce.

The pilot, which has been written by Salim Akil and Mara Brock Akil (The Game), will follow Pierce, a man who hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter hellbent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.

Black Lightning was originally developed at Fox before moving across to The CW – the home of Berlanti’s other DC shows Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl.
