War for the Plant of the Apes gets China release date

August 17, 2017 by Samuel Brace

War for the Planet of the Apes has landed a September China release date.

The latest Apes movie has gone down well with fans and critics alike, and has managed to bring in $313.9 million from the territories it has so far been released in.

Of course, China is a huge market in today’s movie economy, being second only to the US. So the Matt Reeves film will be pleased to finally have its release date for this lucrative part of the world, arriving to Chinese cinemas on September 15.

This date comes about two months after its US domestic bow, where it has so far earned $137.6 million, and about three weeks after China’s summer blackout period which bars Hollywood movies from being shown.

War for the Planet of the Apes will come at the end of a deluge of big western titles hitting China, including: Cars 3, Baby Driver, and Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets arriving on August 25, Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk following on Sept 1, and Spider-Man: Homecoming on Sept. 8.

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.

War for the Planet of the Apes sees Matt Reeves directing a cast that includes Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Judy Greer, Karin Konoval, Terry Notary, Michael Adamthwaite, Gabriel Chavarria, Max Lloyd-Jones, Sara Canning, Amiah Miller, Aleks Paunovic and Chad Rook.
