Back in 2011, with The Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man all on the horizon, I thought it would be pretty useful to start a weekly roundup keeping track of all the latest superhero news. And so The Week in Spandex was born.
Fast forward seven years, umpteen superhero movies later, and… well, it’s time for TWIS to end.
Over the couple of years, we’ve had that many superhero movies and TV shows springing up, that it is simply taking me too long to put it together each week. Between collating all the stories, and actually writing the thing, I’m spending upwards of ten to fifteen hours on it every weekend. Sometimes longer.
Pulling the plug on The Week in Spandex is not a decision I’ve taken lightly, as I’ve very much enjoyed writing the feature, and I’ve been very grateful to everyone who’s read and shared it over the years. I’m sad to see it go, and if I had the time, I’d keep it going. But, unfortunately, that’s just no longer the case.
I’ve toyed with the idea of putting an abridged version out every weekend (basically a list of links to our coverage throughout the week), but I’m not sure anyone would really want that!
Of course, we’ll still be bringing you as much superhero news coverage as is humanly possible here at Flickering Myth each and every day – and hopefully a lot quicker too, now that I’ve managed to free up some time!
Apologies to those who look forward to the article each week. And as always, thanks for reading.

I really enjoyed TWIS! So sad it ended. I hope you guys will still give a weekly superheroes update. Thanks!

Thank you. We’ll try and work something out that doesn’t take as long to put together.

It was nice to get basic updates, without spoilers, to be able to pick and choose what you want to read. So many other comic news sites give away spoilers right in their darn headlines. I certainly can appreciate the time it must take to put this together.

Thank you. We’ll try to keep everything as spoiler free as possible going forward, especially headlines.

Thanks so much for doing this as long as you did. TWIS was my go-to for super hero movie news each week.

You’re welcome. Sorry I could not keep it going. And thank you for reading.

I looked forward to every Saturdays ‘This week in Spandex” . It will be missed – but I get it – time and age. Gary thank you for doing that for years. I will miss it – but I totally understand.
Gary@FlickeringMyth says
Thank you. That is very much appreciated.

One of you young dudes who wants a chance at website writing – research and everything that goes along with running a blog. Yeah there is no payday – I would attempt it but I am too old. So there must be a kid with writing skills who pays attention to Marvel – but they would be scooped up by CNN or anyone else.

Gary,
-I discovered the TWIS in early 2012 and it was everything I could have asked for! It was well structured, comprehensive, and it was always cautious of spoilers…allowing me to geek-out over up and coming releases without any fear that major plot points would be ruined in advance. As a result, it literally became the only article I would read on the internet each week, and I can’t thank you enough for your years of tireless work! It was appreciated more than you know…
-I would love to beg you to continue, suggesting that you try covering only films in an effort to cut down on the amount of material that you would have to sift through each week… However, even with television cut out it seems likely that superhero films will only saturate the market more and more in the years to come…so no fix there.
-Perhaps a monthly update?…Please?
Best Wishes

Hi Justin. Thanks so much for the kind words, it means a lot to me. I’ve been thinking about ways to continue, but you are right that there are just so many movies coming out now that it’s still an enormous job and just taking up too much time on a weekend sadly. I do apologise! I did not want to end it, but need to devote some of the time to my family. I’ll definitely give a monthly update some thought though! Perhaps there is a way I can make that work.

omg – I totally understand but every Saturday this was a must read. There must be someone out there who could continue this. I would try and I am sure the info is easy to get from press releases. Maybe I will try for a week and see what I can do – no promises. But either way thank you for TWIS it was awesome while it lasted.
