Kim Newman’s novel Professor Moriarty: The Hound of the D’Urbervilles is set for a TV adaptation courtesy of Playground Entertainment, the production company behind Little Women, Howards End and King Lear.
The novel, published in 2011, is written as the memoirs of Colonel Sebastian Moran, the trusted lieutenant of Sherlock Holmes’ nemesis Professor Moriarty, and presents the duo as the dark mirror of Holmes and Watson. Here’s the official description of the book courtesy of Amazon:
Imagine the twisted evil twins of Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson and you have the dangerous duo of Professor James Moriarty – wily, snake-like, fiercely intelligent, terrifyingly unpredictable – and Colonel Sebastian Basher Moran – violent, politically incorrect, debauched. Together they run London crime, owning police and criminals alike. When a certain Irene Adler turns up on their doorstep with a proposition, neither man is able to resist.
“I can now announce that my novel Professor Moriarty: The Hound of the d’Urbervilles is in development as a long-form TV project at Playground Entertainment,” said Newman (via Deadline). “Early days yet and no other details available.”
