Ranking Every Netflix Marvel Season from Worst to Best

October 19, 2018 by Liam Hoofe

5: Luke Cage Season 2

Luke Cage season 2 was a lot of fun. The show moved along at a solid pace and featured a fun villain in the shape of Jamaican gang leader, Bushmaster.

The show did a nice job of moving along Harlem’s bigger narrative, with Shades and Mariah Dillard taking centre stage for the majority of the season.

The only real issue with Luke Cage season 2 is that it never really felt as though it was really Luke Cage’s show. While he was brought front and centre for the season’s finale, he spent the majority of the season lurking in the background, and as a result, the final twist in the season’s tale never felt fully deserved.

4: Daredevil Season 2

The opening six episodes of Daredevil season 2 are nothing short of fantastic. The relationship between Daredevil and The Punisher makes for thrilling viewing, and Frank Castle is always a delight when he is on the screen.

Sadly, Daredevil season 2 started a little bit of a trend for Marvel on Netflix by taking a massive nosedive in the second half of the season.

After thrilling fans with the cat and mouse narrative involving The Punisher in the first-half, the season decided to shift its focus to Elektra and The Hand in the second half, totally losing its audience’s interest in the process.

Still, this one ranks so highly thanks to those opening six or seven episodes.

3:  Daredevil Season 1

The series that started it all. Daredevil season 1 laid out the blueprint for all the shows that would follow and still holds up as one of the best seasons Netflix has produced. Matt Murdock is the perfect troubled hero, something which has become a staple of the Marvel Netflix shows, but the real star of this show is Vincent D’Onofrio as Wilson Fisk.

At a time when the MCU was struggling to create memorable villains, Wilson Fisk broke the mould, providing the Universe with a deeply troubled and three-dimensional villain, one whose return is the most anticipated thing about the show’s third season.

Of course, with this being the first Marvel show on Netflix, there were some growing pains but by and large, Daredevil season 1 is an excellent season of television.

2: The Punisher Season 1

While detractors of Marvel’s The Punisher series bemoaned the level of violence in the show, the series was a surprisingly charming and somewhat complex effort from the studio that did the character of Frank Castle a lot of justice.

Jon Bernthal is one of the most charismatic actors in the Marvel Netflix Universe, and alongside Ben Barnes, who was cast as the season’s lead villain, he finally gave audiences a great screen adaptation of one of Marvel’s most popular heroes.

While the show is not without its problems, namely, the season being too long this is still a thrilling ride from start to finish, and the show’s final few episodes do an excellent job of setting up the second season.

1: Jessica Jones Season 1

Jessica Jones season 1 is about as close to perfect as any of the Marvel television shows have ever got. Not only did the season manage to give its main character a compelling and original origin story, but it also had one of the finest villains in MCU history, and that’s including all of the ones on the big screen.

David Tennant’s Kilgrave was a truly terrifying character and his arrival on the show was perfectly built up. The twisted relationship between Jones and Kilgrave made for compelling viewing and this is the only Marvel Netflix show not to suffer from the bloated 13-episode format.

This was truly edge of your seat stuff, and it feels as though Marvel and Netflix have been desperately trying to recapture that magic ever since.

How would you rank Marvel’s Netflix seasons so far, and where does Daredevil season three fall in your rankings? Let us know in the comments below…
