Diary of a Wimpy Kid helmer to direct Rugrats movie

April 29, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Last summer it was announced that Nickelodeon and Paramount Pictures are teaming up to revive the classic cartoon series Rugrats with a brand new animated TV show, along with a live-action/CG-hybrid movie, the latter of which has now found its director.

As revealed by THR, director David Bowers – whose credits include the Diary of a Wimpy Kid sequels Rodrick Rules, Dog Days, and The Long Haul – is set to helm the film, which has been scripted by David Goodman. In addition to his live-action work, Bowers is also experienced in animation, having co-directors Flushed Away and Astro Boy.

Plot details on the Rugrats movie are being kept under wraps, but it has been revealed that the babies will be created with CG animation, while the rest of the movie will be live-action. It is one of several Nickelodeon movies in the works at Paramount, alongside Dora the Explorer and Are You Afraid of the Dark?.
