King of the Monsters director wants to make a prehistoric Godzilla movie

May 19, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Godzilla makes his return to the big screen this month courtesy of Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures with their MonsterVerse sequel Godzilla: King of the Monsters, after which the iconic kaiju will go head-to-head with the Eighth Wonder of the World in next year’s monster mash-up Godzilla vs. Kong.

Warner and Legendary’s deal with Toho Company, Ltd. comes to an end with Godzilla vs. Kong, leaving question marks over the character’s future participation in the MonsterVerse. However, should the series continue, then King of the Monsters director Michael Dougherty has a rather awesome idea for another movie:

“I like the idea of going back in time and telling creatures’ stories from different eras,” Dougherty tells SFX. “Skull Island was set in the ’70s, but personally I’d like to do Godzilla B.C., go back to ancient times and really see the Ray Harryhausen-esque world where primitive humans had to try to survive with these creatures. Maybe we’d get to see the first time mankind truly encountered Godzilla, and get to see how that relationship was christened.”

I don’t know about you, but I’m sold already… What do you make of Dougherty’s idea for Godzilla B.C.? Is that something you’d like to see? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @FlickeringMyth…

Godzilla: King of the Monsters is set for release on May 31st, 2019 and sees Michael Dougherty (Krampus) directing returning Godzilla stars Sally Hawkins (Dr. Vivienne Graham) and Ken Watanabe (Dr. Ishiro Serizawa), and new additions Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things), Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights), O’Shea Jackson Jr. (Straight Outta Compton), Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel), Aisha Hinds (Star Trek Into Darkness), Charles Dance (Game of Thrones), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Zhang Ziyi (The Grandmaster), Randy Havens (Stranger Things) and Elizabeth Ludlow (The Walking Dead).
