UK fans have had to wait patiently for the release of the live-action series Doom Patrol on this side of the Atlantic, the show having premiered on the DC Universe streaming app in the States back in February, but now comes word that the show is set to make its way to these shores in January 2020 courtesy of STARZPLAY.
The acclaimed series – which was renewed for a second season back in the summer – is based upon the DC Comics team of misfits, and all fifteen episodes of the first season are set to launch exclusively in the UK on Starz’s premium streaming service on January 2nd 2020. You can check out a poster and trailer for the UK release here…
Doom Patrol reimagines one of DC’s most beloved group of Super Heroes: Robotman aka Cliff Steele (Brendan Fraser – Crash, The Mummy, Gods and Monsters), Negative Man aka Larry Trainor (Matt Bomer – “White Collar” “American Horror Story” The Normal Heart), Elasti-Woman aka Rita Farr (April Bowlby – “Two and a Half Men” “How I Met Your Mother”) and Crazy Jane (Diane Guerrero – “Orange is the New Black”), led by modern-day mad scientist Niles Caulder aka The Chief (Timothy Dalton – The Living Daylights, License to Kill). Each member of the Doom Patrol suffered a horrible accident that gave them superhuman abilities, but also left them scarred and disfigured.
Following the mysterious disappearance of The Chief, these reluctant heroes find themselves in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg (Joivan Wade – The First Purge, “Doctor Who”), who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse. Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of superpowered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. “Doom Patrol” also stars Alan Tudyk (“Powerless” Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, “Suburgatory”) as Mr. Nobody.
Doom Patrol season one will premiere in the UK in January 2020, while season two will launch on DC Universe and HBO Max in the States at some point later in the year.
