The Matrix 4 will open on the same day as John Wick: Chapter 4

December 12, 2019 by Gary Collinson

Well, as it stands at the moment, May 21st 2021 is going to be a big day for Keanu Reeves fans, as not only will it see the arrival of John Wick: Chapter 4, but it’s also just been set as the release date for The Matrix 4.

Warner Bros. had previously set Taika Waititi’s Akira movie to open opposite the next John Wick film, but with Waititi tied up with Next Goal Wins and Thor: Ragnarok, the anime adaptation has been removed from the studio’s schedule, freeing up the date for Reeves’ return as Neo.

The Lana Wachowski-directed Matrix 4 will see Reeves reuniting with his Matrix co-stars Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith, while newcomers to the franchise include Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen), Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist), Neil Patrick Harris (A Series of Unfortunate Events), Jonathan Groff (Frozen II) and Toby Onwumere (Sense8).

It does of course remain to be seen whether we’ll see the two Keanu Reeves movies going head-to-head, with recent rumours suggesting that the actor’s schedule could result in John Wick: Chapter 4 being delayed. However, on the slim chance that neither Lionsgate or Warner Bros. blink, it will be interesting to see which movie comes out on top and a Matrix victory is certainly far from assured given how the John Wick franchise has been going from strength to strength.

Which movie do you think would come out on top in a head-to-head – John Wick: Chapter 4 or The Matrix 4? Let us know in the comments or on our social channels @FlickeringMyth…
