While we await confirmation on the reports that Sam Raimi is set to take on directing duties on the film, THR is reporting that Marvel Studios has tapped Loki head writer Michael Waldron to pen a rewrite of the script for next year’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Jade Bartlett was originally working on the script for the Doctor Strange sequel, but with original helmer Scott Derrickson departing due to creative differences, it seems that Marvel is now looking to revamp the project before moving into production. Whether this will impact the planned May filming start date and May 2021 release remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Variety has dropped a piece of non-casting news for the film by revealing that Rachel McAdams will not be reprising her role as Dr. Christine Palmer for In the Multiverse of Madness. Her Doctor Strange co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Dr. Stephen Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong) and Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo) are confirmed to return however, while Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff is also set for a lead role.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is currently set open on May 7th 2021.
