New take on Stephen King’s Children of the Corn coming from Equilibrium director

May 6, 2020 by EJ Moreno

As we live in a renaissance of Stephen King’s work, it was inevitable someone would tackle the iconic story of The Children of the Corn. And it’s currently in production in Australia from producer Lucas Foster (Ford v Ferrari) and director Kurt Wimmer (Equilibrium). While many productions around America and the United Kingdom have halted, there’s still some pushing forward, and an article posted by The Hollywood Reporter last week mentioned this reimagining as one of them.

In the piece titled During the Pandemic: How Global Producers Have Found New Ways to Work, THR writer Scott Roxborough briefly profiled Kurt Wimmer’s upcoming Children of the Corn. “On the outskirts of Sydney, producer Lucas Foster (Ford v Ferrari) and director Kurt Wimmer have managed to quietly continue their shoot on The Children of the Corn, a remake of the 1984 horror classic, despite lockdown measures imposed across Australia on March 23rd,” said Roxborough in this profile.

As for safety precautions during this global health crisis, the article notes that “Foster secured an exemption to the general quarantine rules,” with the film’s outdoor shooting, limited cast/crew, and safety protocols allowing for filming to continue. Noted by horror site w in their coverage, The Daily Mail reported over the weekend that police were called to the set due to complaints that the filmmakers were not respecting social distancing guidelines. The production team went on to insist they were and currently still filming at the time of reporting.

This upcoming remake will mark the eleventh film in this long-running horror franchise, following 2018’s tenth installment, Children of the Corn: Runaway.
