Deadline is reporting that MGM has picked up the rights to Josh Blaylock’s cult comic book series Mercy Sparx, setting screenwriter Nick Shafir to pen the script for a feature film adaptation.
Originally published in 2009 through Devil’s Due, Mercy Sparx follows the titular character, a Devil Girl hired by the big shots in Heaven to secretly take down rogue angels on Earth, who finds herself having an existential crisis and begins to see the grey area between good and evil.
The project is being described as a “female Constantine“, referring to the Keanu Reeves-headlined DC movie from 2005.
Blaylock is set to executive produce the adaptation alongside Scott Veltri of Assemble Media, while Assemble’s Jack Heller is producing with The Picture Company’s Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona.
