Jason Momoa explains why he won’t see Dune right away

November 26, 2020 by Samuel Brace

Jason Momoa, one of the stars of Dune, says he won’t be seeing the Denis Villeneuve film right away.

It has gotten to a point that when Denis Villeneuve decides to make a sci-fi film, people automatically pay attention and expect something special. The Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 director’s next effort Dune, is a new adaptation of a classic novel starring Jason Momoa among many other big names.

Momoa, however, isn’t going to see the movie right away, he tells Men’s Health, as he wants to wait until he can see the film with his family.

Explaining how his son gets worried every time he sees him in an action sequence, Momoa said: “My son just loses it… ‘Papa, are you okay?’ And I’m like, ‘Son, I’m sitting right next to you. We’re good. This was two years ago. Just watch the movie.’”

That shared cinematic experience is missed by many and by the time the film comes out in October 2021, hopefully, things will have gotten much safer and Momoa can take his family to see Dune on the big screen the way it was meant to be seen.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, “Dune” tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

The film stars Oscar nominee Timothée Chalamet (“Call Me by Your Name,” “Little Women”), Rebecca Ferguson (“Stephen King’s Doctor Sleep,” “Mission: Impossible – Fallout”), Oscar Isaac (the “Star Wars” franchise) Oscar nominee Josh Brolin (“Milk,” “Avengers: Infinity War”), Stellan Skarsgård (HBO’s “Chernobyl,” “Avengers: Age of Ultron”), Dave Bautista (the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, “Avengers: Endgame”), Stephen McKinley Henderson (“Fences,” “Lady Bird”), Zendaya (“Spider-Man: Homecoming,” HBO’s “Euphoria”), Chang Chen (“Mr. Long,” “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”), David Dastmalchian (“Blade Runner 2049,” “The Dark Knight”), Sharon Duncan-Brewster (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” Netflix’s “Sex Education”), with Oscar nominee Charlotte Rampling (“45 Years,” “Assassin’s Creed”), with Jason Momoa (“Aquaman,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), and Oscar winner Javier Bardem (“No Country for Old Men,” “Skyfall”).
