Ana de Armas replaces Scarlett Johansson in Ghosted alongside Chris Evans

December 3, 2021 by Ricky Church

After joining her Marvel Cinematic Universe co-star Chris Evans in Ghosted a couple months ago, Black Widow star Scarlett Johansson has exited the project due to a scheduling conflict, but it has not taken long to find a replacement as Deadline reports that the film has now cast Ana de Armas (No Time to Die) in Johansson’s role.

De Armas and Evans starred together in Rian Johnson’s hit mystery film Knives Out and will be seen onscreen again in the Russo Brothers’ upcoming The Gray Man. There is no word on the plot or the characters Evans and de Armas will portray, but Ghosted is described as “a high concept romantic action adventure film.” Ghosted was written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool) based on their own idea with Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman) directing.

The film is being produced by AppleTV+ Skydance. Reese, Wernick and Evans are producing with Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger with de Armas also serving as an executive producer.

The reason for the scheduling conflict is because Apple Original Films wants to begin production on the film by February, something Johansson was not able to fulfill with her busy schedule. It was Skydance’s Ellison who pushed for de Armas to take over the role given her growing list of work, including possibly leading the John Wick spin-off Ballerina.
