Whistleblower drama I Helped Destroy People to star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, will produce alongside Michael B. Jordan

March 23, 2022 by Liam Waddington

Watchmen and The Matrix Resurrections star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is attached to star in the upcoming Amazon Studios whistleblower drama I Helped Destroy People, and will produce it alongside Michael B. Jordan.

Based on Janet Reitman’s 2021 New York Times article of the same name, the film will see Abdul-Mateen II playing Terry Albury, “the F.B.I. agent who was tasked with infiltrating Muslim communities post-9/11 as the only Black agent at his bureau. Albury grew so disillusioned by the war on terror that he publicly disclosed classified documents to blow the whistle on the operation, which ultimately landed him in prison”.

The film will be written by Hand of God creator Ben Watkins with Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo producing for Outlier Society, while Abdul-Mateen II will produce for House Eleven10.

Abdul-Mateen II has been making a name for himself in both film and television as the actor has recently won an Emmy for his work in HBO’s Watchmen, he played Morpheus in The Matrix: Resurrections and he portrayed Bobby Seale in Aaron Sorkin’s The Trial of the Chicago 7. He will next be seen in Michael Bay’s Ambulance, which is slated for release in April, as well as reprising his role as Black Manta in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
