Jason Isaacs to play Cary Grant in biopic Archie

August 11, 2022 by Gary Collinson

Jason Isaacs is set to take on the role of Hollywood icon Cary Grant in a new four-part biopic from Philomena and Stan & Ollie writer Jeff Pope, which is being produced by ITV and Britbox International.

Titled Archie after Grant’s birthname Archibald Alexander Leach, the drama series will explore the Oscar-winning actor’s life from his childhood in Bristol, UK through his journey to Hollywood superstardom and his relationship with his fourth wife Dyan Cannon.

“Cary Grant became one of the most iconic figures of the twentieth century, beloved by presidents and paupers,” said Pope. “The key to everything, lay in his childhood.”

“There was only one Cary Grant and I’d never be foolish enough to try to step into his iconic shoes,” added Isaacs. “Archie Leach, on the other hand, couldn’t be further from the character he invented to save himself.”

Archie is being produced for ITV’s new ad-supported subscription streaming service ITVX, where it is intended as one of the flagship original offerings.
