LaKeith Stanfield and Omar Sy to headline Jeymes Samuel’s The Book of Clarence

October 20, 2022 by Matt Rodgers

Jeymes Samuel marked himself as one-to-watch with his stunning debut The Harder They Fall (read our review ★★★★★ here), and his sophomore effort has just become that much more exciting with the news that LaKeith Stanfield and Omar Sy are set to headline The Book of Clarence.

The Book of Clarence is set in biblical times, and will reunite Samuel with The Harder They Fall‘s standout performer, Judas and the Black Messiah‘s Academy Award Nominee LaKeith Stanfield, who will be joined by Lupin‘s Omar Sy.

Deadline reports that Legendary has acquired the BAFTA Award winner’s film and that it is an original project that Samuel wrote and will direct, produce and compose. Plot details are being kept under wraps, but the story does reveal that it is set during the bible era with Stanfield playing Clarence.

During a previous interview with the same publication Samuel talked about what he hoped for The Book for Clarence, saying “You remember those biblical epics, whether they were about the Bible or just taking place around it, from The Ten Commandments to The Greatest Story Ever Told, Samson and Delilah and Ben-Hur, which runs alongside all that stuff in the Bible? As will be The Book of Clarence, a full fun-filled extravaganza. It’s written and ready to go, and set in 29 AD.”
