Universal producing Snoop Dogg biopic from director Allen Hughes

November 10, 2022 by EJ Moreno

Spark one up and head to the cinemas for the Snoop Dogg biopic. The legendary 7-time Grammy nominee is set to have a film based on his life.

The film is a joint effort between writer Joe Robert Cole (Black Panther) and director Allen Hughes, who along with his brother Albert is known for helming the likes of Menace II Society, Dead Presidents and The Book of Eli.

THR notes the filmmakers are looking to produce the “definitive biopic of iconic rapper and entertainment mogul Snoop Dogg.” The rapper is excited about the film, expressing his joy in a new statement.

“I waited a long time to put this project together because I wanted to choose the right director, the perfect writer, and the greatest movie company I could partner with that could understand the legacy that I’m trying to portray on screen and the memory I’m trying to leave behind,” said Snoop in a statement. “It was the perfect marriage. It was holy matrimony, not holy macaroni.”

The film comes from Snoop’s Death Row Pictures, a new production company Snoop runs with Sara Ramaker. He will produce the feature along with Ramaker and Hughes. The rapper is reportedly very involved in the project and will incorporate music from his past catalog.

“Snoop Dogg’s life and legacy make him one of the most exciting and influential icons in popular culture,” stated Donna Langley, chairman of Universal Filmed Entertainment Group. “We met with Snoop shortly after he acquired Death Row Records and had the opportunity to hear his story in his own words. We are humbled to be able to create the lasting document of this singular artist.”
