Billy Oduory on all of the Taylor Sheridan shows set to arrive in 2024…
The Sheridanverse is now an ever-growing genre since Taylor Sheridan cemented his spot as Hollywood’s most prolific writer of the last decade. The formerly obscure actor shook the TV industry with his flagship Western series, Yellowstone, which has since expanded into the most popular Western TV franchise in the world. Sheridan’s passion for exploring the raw reality of the untold stories of life in America and the world beyond has garnered a huge global following that continues to break viewership records whenever he adds new projects to his portfolio.
Unfortunately, Yellowstone, acclaimed for revolutionizing 21st-century TV culture, is set to end when the second half of season 5 is released in November 2024 as announced by Paramount. The Yellowstone Universe is far from over, though, since Paramount has an agreement with Taylor Sheridan for more Yellowstone spinoffs with three of them already in the works and set to be released in 2024 to early 2025.
Besides writing and directing the Yellowstone Universe, Taylor Sheridan also continues to work on other projects, including movies. With both Mayor of Kingstown and Tulsa King being renewed for new seasons, 2024 could just be the busiest year yet for Taylor Sheridan. As for Sheridanverse fans, there is a lot more to look forward to, so here is the full outline of all confirmed Taylor Sheridan TV shows and movies set to be released in 2024.
Landman
Landman follows the story of Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton), a crisis manager for an oil company, as he navigates the murky world of the oil industry in the Boomtowns of West Texas. Set in contemporary times, Landman is set to explore the little-covered stories of the American oil industry, as Thornton’s character interacts with the roughnecks and wildcat billionaires alike. The series is based on the Texas Monthly hit podcast Boomtown, although its coverage of the character goes way deeper into the industry than the podcast.
The release date for the show is yet to be announced, although production is already underway in Dallas. Taylor cowrites and directs part of the show which is set to be released in the summer or fall of 2024. Landman is not connected to the Yellowstone Universe or any of Taylor Sheridan’s other TV shows, but it is expected to be just as explosive.
Set to feature alongside Thornton in the cast are Ali Larter (Heroes), Michelle Randolph (1923), Jacob Lofland (Mud), Kayla Wallace (When Calls The Heart), James Jordan (Yellowstone), Mark Collie (Nashville) and Paulina Chávez (The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia) and Demi Moore (Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans).

6666
This is one of the long-awaited Yellowstone Spinoffs whose production was put on hold because of “sensitivities” related to Taylor Sheridan’s 6666 Ranch as he told THR back in June 2023. The series follows the lives of cowboys on the legendary ranch which is famed as the home of real cowboys. The real-life ranch, which hasn’t changed its culture for over 200 years, has a lot in common with the fictional Yellowstone, and the show is expected to delve into this rich history to bring to life the untold story of the American ranching industry and the little-known world of horse race breeding.
The show was confirmed by Paramount back in February 2021 after the 6666 Ranch was featured in some of the episodes of Yellowstone. Jefferson White and Kathryn Kelly are expected to reprise their Yellowstone roles as Jimmy and Emily respectively in the spinoff, although this hasn’t been confirmed yet. The WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes further caused production delays, but they are now over and the show is now expected to be released later in 2024.
Tulsa King Season 2
Starring Sylvester Stallone in the lead role of Dwight “The General” Manfredi, Tulsa King is Taylor Sheridan’s Western mafia series whose first season received lots of praise. The show follows Stallone’s character after he is exiled to Tulsa, Oklahoma by his New York Mafia family. Instead of dying away as the family expected, Dwight sets up a thriving empire alongside a bunch of misfits whom he inspires into becoming a formidable force in the formerly quiet city.
The show combines Stallone’s sense of humor and Sheridan’s love for the unexplored to deliver a mouthwatering tale. While the second season was confirmed back in 2023, Terence Winter, the showrunner of the first season, left after creative differences with Craig Zisk set to serve as supervising producer on season two. However, filming is now underway – with Frank Grillo joining the cast – and the season is slated to premiere on Paramount+ late this year.

Mayor of Kingstown Season 3
Based in the fictional city of Kingstown, Michigan, Mayor of Kingstown follows the struggles of Mike McLusky (Jeremy Renner) who holds the unofficial position of “The Mayor” in the troubled city where incarceration is the only thriving industry. With seven prisons within a 100-mile radius, Kingstown’s entire population is tied to the prisons in one way or another, creating a volatile society where former inmates affiliated with different armed gangs and prison staff have to coexist. “The Mayor” therefore acts as the mediator to keep the peace in a society ravaged by extreme inequality, corruption, racism, and gang violence.
Mayor of Kingstown was actually the first-ever TV series pilot ever written by Taylor Sheridan, but it languished on the shelves for nearly a decade before Paramount eventually picked it up. After its explosive second season, a third season was never in question, although production couldn’t commence because the lead actor, Jeremy Renner, suffered serious injuries in a Snowplow accident on New Year’s Day in 2023, putting all production plans on halt. Renner has since recovered and shot the second season, which is now confirmed to premiere on Paramount+ on June 2nd with the release of a teaser trailer.
1923 Season 2
This is the hit Yellowstone prequel, set 40 years after the events in 1883 when the Duttons made the difficult journey across the frontier and settled on the Yellowstone. 1923 follows the family’s struggle to keep hold of the ranch during the financial woes of the great depression. Amid a harsh summer that threatens to kill the herds, the Duttons are on the brink of losing their land to a coalition of a vengeful sheep herder and a wealthy mining company who are hell-bent on wiping out the family and taking their ranch Wild-West-style.
Starring Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren as Jacob and Cara Dutton respectively, 1923 is a star-studded prequel that fully envisages the spirit of Yellowstone. The show was renewed for a second season back in February 2023, although the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes caused disruptions to production. It can now be released before the end of 2024 because it hasn’t had any behind-the-scenes casting disruptions like the flagship series.
Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2
Yellowstone follows the Duttons, the fictional owners of the largest contiguous ranch in the USA based in the Yellowstone Valley, Montana. The family faces threats from within their dysfunctional family as well as powerful external forces, including wealthy developers who see their vast ranch as prime real estate for the modernization wave in Montana. However, John Dutton, the family patriarch, remains adamant about preserving his ancestors’ American countryside way of life.
Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 remains one of, if not the, most anticipated TV shows in 2024, especially since Paramount announced that the episodes will be released in November. However, the show has been rocked by behind-the-scenes drama, the biggest of all being the exit of the lead actor Kevin Costner who plays John Dutton. However, Taylor Sheridan assured fans that Costner’s exit only “truncates,” but doesn’t “alter” the ending of the show as he intended from the start when he wrote Yellowstone.

2024
Initially expected to star Mathew McConaughey in a lead role, 2024 is the working title of the expected consolatory replacement of Yellowstone. The show is expected to continue the contemporary narrative of the Dutton family, although the details of its plot are yet to be made clear. With so many pieces of the puzzle yet to be put in place, a 2024 release feels like a long shot for the show which was announced in November 2023, but anything is still possible.
The show could be off to a rough start, though, since McConaughey is apparently considering walking away from the deal as reported by Life & Style Magazine. Taylor Sheridan had earlier suggested that the show could rely on a whole new cast, as opposed to the popular belief that some of the characters from the main show, such as Rip and Beth would be the foundation of the new show. 2024, in whichever form Taylor Sheridan molds it, will still be a welcome consolation for Yellowstone fans after the flagship series ends.
1944
1944 was the second Yellowstone spinoff announced by Chris McCarthy, the CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment, alongside 2024 in November 2023. No further details were given about its plot or cast apart from the promise that it “will take audiences on a thrilling, new and unexpected journey…” Being set in 1944 indicates that the spinoff will follow the story of the Dutton family after surviving the events in 1923. It will also show how the ranch survives in the middle of WWII, possibly with members of the Dutton family enlisted in the army just like Spencer in 1923.
1944 will also introduce the audience to John Dutton Jr, the father to Yellowstone’s John Dutton III (Kevin Costner). With Spencer and Jack likely being the only surviving men in 1923, 1944 will shed some light on which of them continued the Dutton family tree. However, like 2024, there are still many things to put together before 1944 can hit the screens, so a 2024 release date might be too soon.
