SAG-AFTRA has approved that more than 35 productions will be able to continue production during the current strike in Hollywood.
For those who don’t know, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA are on strike as they head into another set of protesting and attempted negotiations with AMPTP companies. This strike has shut down a massive amount of Hollywood productions from all over the world, and it has caused quite an uproar.
Now, Variety reports that 39 independent productions can shoot during the strike after confirmation that none are attached to the AMPTP. One of the companies able to work this time will be A24. As a spokesperson for the company notes, “A24 is not part of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.”
Two A24 productions that will continue filming are David Lowery’s Mother Mary, starring Anne Hathaway with Michaela Coel, and Death of a Unicorn, starring Paul Rudd and Jenna Ortega.
Little is known about Death of a Unicorn, but the dark comedy movie sees a father and daughter accidentally crash into a unicorn leading to a battle against the odds. Mother Mary is an epic pop melodrama following a fictional musician (Hathaway) and her relationship with an iconic fashion designer (Coel).
Variety notes some of the other projects also include The Rivals of Amziah King, starring Matthew McConaughey, Flight Risk, starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Mel Gibson, Dust Bunny starring Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver, Bride Hard with Rebel Wilson, as well as The Chosen, a new show about the life of Jesus.
