Anthony Daniels is “really p*ssed off” that George Lucas hasn’t received enough recognition from the Oscars

November 5, 2019 by Samuel Brace

According to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker star Anthony Daniels, George Lucas hasn’t been properly recognised by the Oscars.

George Lucas is truly one of cinemas iconic figures. With Star Wars alone, his influence has been staggering, but has he been properly recognised by the Oscars? Well, according to C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels, he hasn’t.

Speaking to The Sun (via ComicBook.com), the actor – who has worked with Lucas for decades – said that Lucas himself should have won something by now: “The Academy can be very snobbish and almost obviously. And George is not a Hollywood person – ‘If you don’t like our gang we’re not going to have you in our gang,’ sort of thing. Really pisses me off that I don’t think George ever won an Oscar for himself, just departments – special effects and all that kind of thing. George deserves more than that.”

With Lucas not being so active in the realm of filmmaking these days, it seems unlikely his Oscar situation will change. What do you think? Should Lucas have won an Oscar for directing or writing? Let us know in the comments below and on Twitter @flickeringmyth.
