If you’re constantly confused about when we will finally see Attack The Block 2, don’t worry, we have an update. While it’s not a release date, filmmaker Joe Cornish is finally letting us know where we are in the development of the long-awaited sequel.
Cornish tells The Kingcast podcast (via Fangoria) that he’s moving along swimmingly: “We have a very detailed treatment and a storyline we’re very, very excited about – and when I say ‘we,’ I mean me and John Boyega, who [I’m co-producing the film with] and consulting very closely with – and we’re doing all the research to make sure we get it right, tells Cornish.
He adds more, detailing what iconic sequels have inspired him…a hint: James Cameron. Cornish adds, “We’re very, very quietly confident and excited about what we’ve got. We think about Alien and Aliens and Terminator and Terminator 2, and we wanna take a shot at doing our version of what people did for [those movies].”
Attack The Block dominated the independent movie scene in 2011. The sci-fi comedy underperformed at the box office but became a cult hit soon after and found an audience that grew over time. The film would win several awards along the festival circuit, including the Audience Award for Best Film (Midnights) at SXSW 2011 and Best First Feature at the 2011 Toronto Film Critics Association Awards. Attack The Block also helped launch the career of actor John Boyega, who would star in several Star Wars films soon after.
Attack The Block 2 has been developing for quite some time; Studiocanal, Film4, Complete Fiction Pictures & UpperRoom Productions are producing.
