Lionsgate has tapped Colby Day to pen an adaptation of Adrian Tchaikovsky’s epic sci-fi novel Children of Time, Variety has revealed.
Published in 2015, the story involves a planet inhabited by evolved spiders uplifted by human scientists, and their later discovery by the last humans alive in the universe, playing off the contrast between the societal development of the spiders and the barbaric descent of the starship crew of the last humans. The book was awarded the Arthur C. Clarke Award in 2016, where it was described as having a “universal scale and sense of wonder reminiscent of Clarke himself.”
Day recently penned the grounded sci-fi drama In the Blink of an Eye, which made the 2016 Black List, and has also worked on a number of short films such as Appetite, Storefront and Happy Vacation.
