As filming on Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Acolyte continues in the UK, Discussing Film is reporting that critically acclaimed filmmaker Kogonada (After Yang) has joined the directing team of the live-action Disney+ series.
Kogonada, whose previous TV work includes the Apple TV+ series Pachinko, joins showrunner Leslye Headland (Russian Doll) and Alex Garcia Lopez (Daredevil) in directing episodes of the show, which is the first film or TV offering from Lucasfilm to be set in the ‘High Republic’ era of the Star Wars franchise.
The Acolyte also ventures into uncharted territory for the saga as the first “Sith-led” Star Wars story, and is described as a “mystery-thriller” set during the dying days of the High Republic – around a century before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace
