The Flash movie producer says the film will “restart everything” and feature a lot of DC characters

September 14, 2020 by Liam Waddington

During the second portion of the DC FanDome virtual convention event over the weekend, The Flash director Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti have provided an update on the upcoming DC film.

At a DC FanDome Flash Q&A panel, Barbara provided several hints at how The Flash will have an impact on the future of the DCEU including teasing that the film will “restart everything.”

“Well, I want you to go see it, so I’m not going to tell you a lot,” Muschietti explained. “But what I will tell you is that it’s a ride. It’s going to be fun and exciting and there are a lot of DC characters in it. Flash is the superhero of this film because he is the bridge between all of these characters and timelines. And in a way, it restarts everything and doesn’t forget anything.”

While we don’t know exact plot details, this comment from Barbara Muschietti seemingly implies that The Flash movie may be using a loose adaptation of the Flashpoint storyline to redefine what the DCEU will look like in future films.

Meanwhile, Andy went on to discuss the tone that he’s aiming for with The Flash, stating:

“My Flash is not gonna be light or dark in tone. It’s gonna have everything. If you saw my previous movies like It and It Chapter 2, you’ll know that I like to put everything in it. So what you’ll see in Flash is very deep emotional story, but it’s also gonna be very funny hopefully and a great, epic adventure at the same time. And also terrifying sometimes. So that’s my answer. Get ready.”

Andy Muschietti is set to direct The Flash from a script Bumblebee writer Christina Hodson, who penned the 2020 DC film Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). The cast is set to include Ezra Miller as The Flash and both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton who will be returning as their iterations of Batman for substantial roles.
