Furious 7 becomes only the fourth film ever to pass $1.5 billion at the global box office

May 27, 2015 by Gary Collinson

Fast & Furious 7 has just reached another box office milestone today, with the latest instalment of the high octane action franchise hitting $1.5 billion at the global box office, becoming just the fourth film to do so after Avatar, Titanic and The Avengers.

The fourth-highest grossing movie of all time, Furious 7 has banked $348 million domestically and $1.152 billion from the international markets, and has almost pulled in twice that of its predecessor Fast & Furious 6, which earned $788 million backi n 2013.

Furious 7 is the biggest earner of 2015 so far, although Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron is hot on its heels, with the Joss Whedon-directed sequel having pulled in $1.278 billion and counting. Meanwhile, Furious 7 is just some $18 million away from surpassing 2012’s The Avengers, although it may just fall short of that target.
