As we prepare for Logan, the ninth and possibly final time audiences will see Hugh Jackman slice and dice fools as Wolverine, it’s hard to imagine someone new taking on the role, let alone a world where Jackman never got the part in the first place.
In an interview with E! Online at the Producers Guild Awards, Jackman spoke of his first outing as Wolverine in 2000’s X-Men, and his difficulties settling into what has now become his signature role:
“I was kind of struggling, to be honest. It was the first movie I had ever done in America. I was pretty tight. I was nervous. I was average, to be honest, at best. No one was saying anything and I sort of thought I was getting away with it, but I wasn’t. [Producer Tom Rothman] told me that he believed in me, that from the moment he’d seen my tape he had a gut feeling I was the guy, but watching my dailies was like watching someone put a lampshade over a light.”

In the near future, a weary Logan cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan’s attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.
Logan is being helmed by The Wolverine director James Mangold and will see Hugh Jackman joined in the cast by Patrick Stewart as Professor X, along with new additions Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Dafne Keen, Eriq La Salle, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Elise Neal. It is set for release on March 1st in the UK and March 3rd in North America.
