Zack Snyder explains why he didn’t cast Grant Gustin as The Flash in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

March 21, 2016 by Gary Collinson

When Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in cinemas this week, it won’t just be the Trinity assembling on the big screen. The movie is also set to feature cameo appearances from Justice League members Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash.

Somewhat disappointingly for fans of The CW’s hit superhero show, it won’t be Grant Gustin donning the suit as the Scarlet Speedster, but rather Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), and speaking to the New York Daily News, director Zack Snyder has revealed why we’ll be seeing a new Barry Allen.

“I just don’t think [Gustin] was a good fit,” states Snyder. “I’m very strict with this universe and I just don’t see a version where…that [tone is] not our world.”

Snyder went on to support the recent comments from Kevin Smith, who suggested that DC’s Geoff Johns was keen on the idea of a multiverse where all the various DC projects co-exist:

“Even if Grant Gustin is my favorite guy in the world and he’s very good, we made a commitment to the multiverse (idea), so it’s just not a thing that’s possible.”

Are you sad that we won’t be seeing Grant Gustin on the big screen alongside the rest of the Justice League, or is it the right move to recast for the DC Extended Universe? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

Fearing the actions of a god-like Super Hero left unchecked, Gotham City’s own formidable, forceful vigilante takes on Metropolis’s most revered, modern-day savior, while the world wrestles with what sort of hero it really needs. And with Batman and Superman at war with one another, a new threat quickly arises, putting mankind in greater danger than it’s ever known before.
