Henry Cavill and Zack Snyder on the chances of another solo Superman movie

April 5, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Although Warner Bros. announced a sequel to Man of Steel back in 2013, the project took a back seat when the studio decided to bring The Dark Knight into the fold for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Both Batman and Superman were absent from Warner’s slate of DC movies through to 2020, there were rumours last year that Man of Steel 2 was in development, although reports of Mad Max: Fury Road helmer George Miller directing seemed to be wide of the mark.

So, with talk of a solo Batman movie intensifying, IGN caught up with Henry Cavill, Zack Snyder and producer Charles Roven to ask what the future holds for another solo movie for the Last Son of Krytpon:

“I do believe it depends upon the success of [Batman v Superman],” stated Cavill. “If this goes well then we can start negotiating with Warner Bros. to develop a standalone Superman. But they’ve got their plans set out for other stuff and Justice Leagues and various other movies. It’s about finding the time, really. It’s something that I would be very keen to do.”

“I think if we can get a good script it would be great to get a standalone Superman,” said Snyder, with Charles Roven adding that: “We’re in the process of looking at that, but we don’t have it on the schedule at the moment because we’re quite busy with the movies that we have scheduled.”

Would you like to see a Man of Steel 2 added to Warner’s slate, or should the studio focus on new properties? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below…

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is out now and sees Zack Snyder directing a cast that includes returning Man of Steel stars Henry Cavill (Superman), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), Diane Lane (Martha Kent), Laurence Fishburne (Perry White), Harry Lennix (General Swanwick), Kevin Costner (Jonathan Kent) and Christina Wren (Carrie Farris) alongside Ben Affleck (Argo) as Batman, Gal Gadot (Fast & Furious 6) as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones) as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) as The Flash, Jesse Eisenberg (Now You See Me) as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons (The Borgias) as Alfred Pennyworth, Holly Hunter (The Piano) as Senator Finch, Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) as Mercy Graves, Lauren Cohan (The Walking Dead) as Martha Wayne, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Watchmen) as Thomas Wayne, Scoot McNairy (Argo) as Wallace Keefe and Callan Mulvey (300: Rise of an Empire) as Anatoli Knyazev.
