MGM bringing J. Michael Straczynski’s superhero comic Rising Stars to the big screen

June 15, 2016 by Gary Collinson

Deadline is reporting that MGM has snapped up the rights to J. Michael Straczynski’s Top Cow comic book series Rising Stars, and have tapped him to pen a script for a big screen adaptation.

Rising stars centres on “a special group of people all linked to one extraordinary event, and how they change the world we know into something we only imagined. It offers a new world of superheroes, as 113 children who were in utero when a meteor hit their Illinois hometown were left with special powers. Some of them are being murdered, and when that happens, their powers switch to the remaining “specials,” some of whom want nothing to do with this superhero business.”

Published under Straczynski’s Joe’s Comics imprint, Rising Stars launched in 1999 and ran for 24 issues through 2005. In addition to writing the script, Straczynski will also produce alongside Alex Gartner and Richard Suckle of Atlas Entertainment.
