The Top 100 Your Sinclair ZX Spectrum Games: #85 – Guardian 2

June 4, 2016 by Villordsutch

After the grounding role of a refuse collector in Trashman from yesterday’s Your Sinclair Top 100, we’re back into the murky depths of outer space in this Defender-like game, as  No.#85 on the list is Guardian 2.

Published by Hi Tec Software in 1990, I recently discovered – thanks to a programmer from the past named Rich Stevenson – that Guardian 2 was actually based on Defender’s arcade sequel Stargate and not on Defender itself.

For those that don’t know the basics of Defender or Stargate, you play a lone ship flying across an endless landscape, numerous waves of alien swine’s attack you from all sides and attempt to make-off with the humans from the ground below.

Guardian 2 is quite a good clone of Stargate, though the controls are overly twitchy and the enemies tend to vanish on the odd occasion. Nevertheless it’s still a very enjoyable game.
