Will Beall writing Aquaman script

July 22, 2016 by Ricky Church

Aquaman is once again changing writers as Will Beall (Gangster Squad) has been hired to write the script the Atlantean King, per The Hollywood Reporter. However, Beall will apparently be working off a very detailed treatment written by none other than director James Wan and DC Comcs scribe and executive Geoff Johns. Johns is currently overseeing all of the DC Extended Universe films with Jon Berg.

This is a bit of a funny twist given that in 2014 Beall was hired to write a competing draft to Aquaman as WB looked for multiple scripts to turn into a potential film. At the time, WB chose Kurt Johnstad’s script, which then got a rewrite from David Leslie Johnson once James Wan came onboard. Johnson wrote Wan’s Conjuring 2, but not it seems to have come full circle for Beall as he is again tasked with turning Wan and Johns’ treatment into a full script.

Aquaman will star Jason Mamoa as the titular hero, Amber Heard as Mera and Willem Dafoe as Vulko. The film is currently set for a July 27, 2018 release date.
