Russos tease a “new character” for Avengers: Infinity War and endorse Anna Kendrick as Squirrel Girl

August 19, 2016 by admin

A couple of months ago, Pitch Perfect star Anna Kendrick made an off-handed comment that she would like to play Squirrel Girl in a Marvel Cinematic Universe movie. Surprisingly, it was a story that caught a lot of wind and even Shaun of the Dead director Edgar Wright rang in his endorsement. But two men who really matter – in terms of making decisions at least – are The Russo Brothers who are currently developing Avengers: Infinity War. Would they like to see Kendrick join the MCU?

“It would be perfect casting, and we’re huge Anna Kendrick fans,” Joe Russo told Yahoo! Movies.

However, it would appear that Squirrel Girl will not be a part of Avengers: Infinity War – but that’s not to say it will be filled with characters already announced. “Anthony [Russo] would probably die from exhaustion if we introduced another character,” Joe joked before his brother added, “That’s not to say we’re not going to introduce a new character.”

Any ideas on who this character will be?

“That’s one we’re going to have to plead the fifth on,” Anthony joked before mentioning the “67 characters” comment from earlier this year. “Yeah, it’s down to 66. Remember [S.H.I.E.L.D. surgeon] Dr. Fine, from Winter Soldier? He’s off the board. Wanted too much money.”

One could probably assume that the new character will be Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, but time will tell on whether we’ll see a new Avenger join the fray.

Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled for release on May 4th, 2018, with Untitled Avengers following on May 3rd, 2019.
