Todd Lasance to play The Rival in The Flash season 3

August 25, 2016 by Amie Cranswick

TV Line is reporting that Todd Lasance (The Vampire Diaries) is set for a recurring role in season three of The Flash, where he’ll portray The Rival, a black-suited Speedster (who is presumably the same character spotted in these set photos back in July).

Initial reports has suggested that Lasance has been cast as Savitar, one of the two main villains in the third season of the DC show alongside Doctor Alchemy, only for executive producer Greg Berlanti to clarify on Twitter that they are yet to cast the new big bad.

It’s unclear how The Rival will factor into the series, but in the comic books he is the alter-ego of Dr. Edward Clariss, who recreates Velocity 9, the formula responsible for giving Jay Garrick his speed, and becomes a villain who dresses as a darker version of Garrick’s Flash.

The Flash returns to The CW on October 4th.
