A couple of weeks back, a rumour surfaced claiming that Warner Bros. is planning to turn J.K. Rowling’s stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child into a movie trilogy, with the studio keen to have Daniel Radcliffe reprise his role as the (former) Boy Wizard.
Although WB has since denied the claims, stating that there are “no plans” to adapt the play for the big screen, one has to imagine that the studio will be itching to extend the lucrative franchise beyond the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them spinoff trilogy, and during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Radcliffe has suggested that he could be open to a return.
“I’m never going to close the door; that would be a stupid thing to do,” said Radcliffe. “But I think I’ll be happy enough and secure enough to let someone else play it. At the moment it’s not even a concern because I’m too young to play the character, but even in 10 years’ time I would still feel strange about going back to it.”
“There’s a part of me that’s like, some things are better left untouched,” he continued. “If we went back to Potter, there’s a chance we’d make what Star Wars: The Force Awakens was to the original Star Wars, but there’s also the chance that we’d make The Phantom Menace. So I don’t want to go back to anything like that and maybe sour what people have already loved.”
