Last year, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura announced that he was developing a feature adaptation of Mark Millar and Franke Quitely’s superhero comic book series Jupiter’s Legacy, which had Journey 2: The Mysterious Island screenwriters Brian and Mark Gunn attached to pen the script. Now, in an interview with THR, di Bonaventura has suggested that the project may instead end up as a TV series due to its expansive story.
“Not for lack of interest,” said the producer when asked why he’s yet to work on a superhero movie. “As an executive, I oversaw some Batmans and tried to get Superman going. But that market is saturated now. I have a project with Mark Millar, who wrote [the comic that became] Kingsman: The Secret Service, that is a superhero project: Jupiter’s Legacy. What attracted me to it was it’s not repeating what everybody else has done. It’s not yet set up at a studio. Its universe is so expansive that it’s, in some ways, more conducive to a television treatment. I’m doing it either way.”
Published by Image Comics, Jupiter’s Legacy explores the generational conflict between a group of Depression-era superheroes and their offspring, who are daunted by the prospect of having to live up to their parents’ legacy.
