NYCC: Jemaine Clement joins FX’s Marvel show Legion

October 9, 2016 by Justin Cook

While the Marvel-Netflix shows had their chance to wow audiences at New York Comic-Con yesterday, today it was FX’s turn, as they showed off their upcoming Marvel series Legion to the crowd. The Legion panel, which featured such guests as creator Noah Hawley, Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb (who also was at the Marvel Netflix panel), executive producer Lauren Shuler Donner and cast members Dan Stevens, Rachel Keller, Aubrey Plaza, Katie Aselton, Jermaine Harris, Bill Irwin and Amber Midthunder, included quite a few interesting bits of previously unknown information, the most surprising of which being the addition of a new cast member.

Briefly after telling the crowd in the near-full Hammerstein Ballroom, Hawley took to social media to reveal that Flight of the Conchords actor Jemaine Clement is set to appear on the show. His Instagram post about the news can be seen here…

Deadline later confirmed that while no details about the actor’s role are available, he has signed on for a “multi-episode arc.”

Clement, a New Zealand-born actor, is also known for his work in Despicable Me, Men in Black 3, What We Do in the Shadows and The BFG. As of recent, he has begun making appearances in a number of critically acclaimed American TV shows including Rick and Morty, Inside Amy Schumer and Another Period.

The first half of the Legion pilot was screened to and warmly received by the audience, who praised it for being strange and surreal. Many also claimed that based on the footage shown, it looks like it will be taking the X-Men universe in previously unexplored directions.

An official premiere date has still not been announced for Legion, but it is expected to hit the airwaves in 2017.
