UPDATE: Michelle Yeoh joins Star Trek: Discovery

November 23, 2016 by Ricky Church

Star Trek: Discovery has got its first cast member, with news that Marco Polo‘s Michelle Yeoh has joined the show, though it is not yet known which role she is playing.

This news comes from Comingsoon.net, who spoke to The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country director Nicholas Meyer. Meyer is serving as a consulting producer on Discovery and told the site he knew Yeoh was in it during a conversation about Time After Time‘s Blu-ray release.

Yeoh is known for her roles in Marco Polo, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and its sequel Sword of Destiny and the 1997 James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies with Pierce Brosnan. Hopefully we’ll get confirmation who she is playing soon, as well as who else will be starring in the show.

UPDATE: Deadline is reporting that Yeoh is portraying a Starfleet Captain called Georgiou, who is the Captain of the Shenzhou, a ship that will play a big role in the first season of the show.

Discovery is executive produced by Bryan Fuller with Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts acting as showrunners and Akiva Goldsman lending producing support. The series is set to premiere on CBS All Access in May 2017.
