Peter Dinklage being eyed for role in both upcoming Avengers movies

January 12, 2017 by Justin Cook

Just when you thought the cast of Avengers: Infinity War couldn’t get any better, a new report from Variety states that Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage is being eyed for a role in the film. If the actor does come on board the project, he’ll most likely be returning for the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4, which is due out a year after Infinity War.

Signing on would make Dinklage a newcomer to the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe, although he’s no stranger to comic book movies. In 2014, the actor played Dr. Bolivar Trask, the creator of the Sentinels and target of an assassination attempt, in Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. While Dinklage did fine work in the movie, he was severely underused and didn’t exactly make a strong impression, so if he’s trading Fox’s X-Men universe for Disney’s MCU, there’s not a lot of damage done.

Production on the project will reportedly get underway sometime this summer, so it won’t conflict with Dinklage’s Game of Thrones commitments since the show now shoots over the fall; Infinity War and Avengers 4 will film back-to-back.

Between Game of Thrones, Days of Future Past and possibly Infinity War, Dinklage has garnered quite a bit of “nerd cred” in recent years. There was a time when Dinklage was primarily known for his parts in Elf and (the criminally underseen) The Station Agent, so he’s come a long way since then.

Avengers: Infinity War will star Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlett Witch), Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), Dave Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Benedict Wong (Wong), Cobie Smulders (Maria Hill), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel) and Josh Brolin (Thanos), while a recent rumour has suggested Liv Tyler could return as Betty Ross.

Joe and Anthony Russo are set to direct both upcoming Avengers films, while Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely will pen the scripts. Avengers: Infinity War is set for release on May 4th, 2018, followed by Avengers 4 on May 3rd, 2019.
