10 Things I Hate About You is a millennial staple, a romantic comedy that brought Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger together.
While we’ve seen other attempts to bring this to life, Gil Junger, the director of the 1999 film, says we are moving closer to a brand new take that would nod at both the original and the late Ledger.
The sequel is still in its early stages, and notes “is definitely in the works as a feature film. We’re developing it right now.”
The wildest part? We’d get more than one installment as we learn of a potential trilogy. The filmmaker revealed he is co-writing a script alongside Naya Elle James titled 10 Things I Hate About Dating. This film would branch off into subsequent installments titled 10 Things I Hate About Marriage and 10 Things I Hate About Kids.
Junger continued to reveal details about the productions. Regarding actors, Junger says he “hasn’t thought” about which actors could potentially reprise their roles but is open to “having some cameos or even real parts.” He adds, “I’d love Larry Miller to come back because he’s so great.”
“I would love to work with Julia again,” Junger told the publication. “She shaped the lives of millions of women. That Kat character really spoke to young women in a very powerful way.”
As for paying respect to Heath Ledger, the filmmaker said, “I think that’s a beautiful idea, and the answer is now going to be yes. He deserves to be loved.”
Stay tuned for updates on this 10 Things trilogy.
