While Disney’s purchase of Lucasfilm proved good news for Star Wars fans looking to see more adventures from a galaxy far, far away on the big screen, it also sadly meant the cancellation of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which came to an abrupt end this year at the close of its fifth season. However, supervising director Dave Filoni has now announced via Facebook that work has been completed on one final batch of Clone Wars episodes, and that these will see the light of day some time next year:
“Star Wars fans – I have some exciting news! We have wrapped production on all of the remaining Star Wars: The Clone Wars episodes, and while that might be sad news in one way, it’s good news in another. It means you will finally get to see them. When, exactly, is a detail I cannot yet share. I can confirm that in early 2014 you will be watching the final episodes of The Clone Wars, including one of Master Yoda’s most challenging missions. So, get ready. We’ve got Clone Wars and Rebels coming at you in 2014. Animated Star Wars is alive and well. Trust in the Force my friends.”
At this point its unclear whether the last episodes of The Clone Wars will be shown on either Cartoon Network or Disney XD, or whether they’ll be released straight-to-DVD. Nevertheless, fans of the show can now rest easy in the knowledge that we’ll be getting a definitive conclusion to The Clone Wars in 2014.
