The ten most pirated movies of 2013

After releasing their list of the top ten most pirated TV shows (topped for the second year running by Game of Thrones), the folks over at Torrent Freak have now turned their attention to the most pirated movies of the year.

Leading the way with almost eight and a half million illegal downloads is Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, followed by Django Unchained and Fast & Furious 6 in second and third respectively. Here’s the full list, along with the number of downloads, and the worldwide box-office gross….

1. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – 8.4 million downloads – $1,017,003,568 gross
2. Django Unchained – 8.1 million downloads – $425,368,238 gross
3. Fast & Furious 6 – 7.9 million downloads – $788,679,850 gross
4. Iron Man 3 – 7.6 million downloads – $1,215,439,994 gross
5. Silver Linings Playbook – 7.5 million downloads – $236,412,453 gross
6. Star Trek Into Darkness – 7.4 million downloads – $467,365,246 gross
6. Gangster Squad – 7.2 million downloads – $105,200,903 gross
8. Now You See Me – 7 million downloads – $351,723,989 gross
9. The Hangover Part III – 6.9 million downloads – $351,000,072 gross
10. World War Z – 6.7 million downloads – $540,007,876 gross
