James Gunn reveals his second choice for Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy

November 19, 2014 by Luke Owen

It was a movie that turned Chris Pratt into a household name and mega star, but there was a chance that he wasn’t going to play Star Lord in James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Although the Parks and Recreation star did eventually take the role, Gunn has revealed who his second choice to play the part was.

“Glenn [Howerton] came along a little bit later, but there was a good chance that, if I didn’t cast Chris, that I would’ve cast Glenn Howerton in the role,” Gunn told GQ journalist Drew Magary.

If you’re unaware of that name, Glenn Howerton is one of the stars of TV’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

What do you make of this second choice? Would he have made a better or worse Star Lord than Pratt?

Guardians of the Galaxy sees James Gunn directing a cast that includes Chris Pratt (The LEGO Movie) as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora, Dave Bautista (Riddick) as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper (American Hustle) as Rocket Raccoon, Vin Diesel (Fast & Furious 6) as Groot, Benicio Del Toro (Sin City) as The Collector, Lee Pace (The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug) as Ronan the Accuser, Karen Gillan (Doctor Who) as Nebula, Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond) as Korath, John C. Reilly (Step Brothers) as Rhomman Dey, Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead) as Yondu, Glenn Close (Damages) as Nova Prime Rael and Josh Brolin (Men in Black 3) as Thanos.
