Frank Oz to guest star in Star Wars Rebels as Yoda

We’ve already heard one iconic Star Wars voice in Star Wars Rebels, with James Earl Jones making a guest appearance as Darth Vader in the feature-length premiere ‘Spark of Rebellion’, and now TV Guide has revealed that Frank Oz will also be reprising the role of Yoda for an upcoming appearance in the show.

With Yoda in hiding on Dagobah at the time of Rebels (it takes place between Episode III and Episode IV, for those of you yet to catch the show), the character will “appear” as a disembodied voice, who will offer counsel to Jedi Knight Kanan and his padawan Ezra Bridger.

“I felt personally to keep Yoda as this disembodied thing it would confuse the audience less,” states executive produer Dave Filoni. “I didn’t want you to think Yoda could be teleporting from planet to planet. What’s great about Frank, by keeping the voice very present and active, you do feel that it’s a watchfulness and that he’s speaking to you from afar. And I didn’t want anyone to think that he had left Dagobah. It was on the outer rim of what we do, but I think we were able to pull it off.”

Yoda will appear in the January 5th episode of Star Wars Rebels, entitled ‘Path of the Jedi’.
