New details on Daredevil villains including The Owl and The Gladiator

March 4, 2015 by admin

We’re less than two months away now from the debut of Daredevil in the Marvel Universe as he kicks off their new TV franchise, before handing the reins over to A.K.A. Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. We know that we’ll be seeing Daredevil’s biggest adversary The Kingpin in the show, but Brazilian site The Omelete have provided some new information on other baddies.

A big thanks to the chaps over at MCU Exchange for the translation.

The site reports that Melvin Potter, aka The Gladiator, will play a “large part” in the show as Wilson Fisk’s weapon guy and will be providing The Kingpin with some kitted out cars and even a kevlar suit. The Gladiator was one of Daredevil’s early villains but would eventually reform and become an ally to the Man Without Fear down the line.

Also reported by the site’s set visit is that Leland Owlsley, aka The Owl, will serve as Kingpin’s financial advisor and that “other characters in the Marvel Universe” are set to appear.

As for Kingpin himself, the site reports that he is after the same thing Daredevil is – to make the city a safer place.

“Both Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk want to turn Hell’s Kitchen in a better place to live”, she Daredevil Costume Designer Stephanie Maslanski. “Fisk is a guy who has a heart and a past. It is a deep and multi-layered character. He is far from be a grotesque and exaggerated character. We leave that to other programs that are on TV.”

Here are some other details from the show:

  • Matt Murdock lives on the top floor of an 8 story building.
  • Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple (Night Nurse) works at Metro General Hospital.
  • The series is aiming for a somewhat realistic tone, akin to The Wire or even Arrow.
  • Matt’s abilities are incredible but still very much grounded in reality.
  • Atlas Investments is a company near the Nelson & Murdock Law office, an Easter Egg to the Pre-Marvel day of Atlas Comics. Maybe even the Agents of ATLAS?

Marvel’s Daredevil is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.

Daredevil sees Charlie Cox (Stardust) leading the cast as Matt Murdock/Daredevil alongside Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) as Karen Page, Elden Henson (The Butterfly Effect) as Foggy Nelson, Vincent D’Onofrio (Law & Order: Criminal Intent) as the Kingpin, Scott Glenn (The Silence of the Lambs) as Stick, Peter Shinkoda (Falling Skies) as Hachiro, Rosario Dawson (Sin City: A Dame to Kill For) as Claire Temple / Night Nurse, Toby Moore (John Wick) as Wesley, Ayelet Zurer (Man of Steel) as Vanessa, Vondie Curtis-Hall (Chicago Hope) as Ben Urich and Bob Gunton (The Shawshank Redemption) as Leland Owlsley / The Owl.
