Alicia Vikander to star in The Circle opposite Tom Hanks

May 12, 2015 by Scott J. Davis

THR is reporting from Cannes on the news that Ex_Machina star Alicia Vikander is to star in tech-thriller The Circle, opposite Oscar winner Tom Hanks (Saving Mr. Banks).

The actress, who has been getting rave reviews for her performance in Alex Garland’s sci-fi film, will take the lead in the project for James Ponsoldt, the director behind The Spectacular Now and Smashed.

Vikander has a big year in store: aside from Ex_Machina, the actress will be seen in Guy Ritchie’s big-screen adaptation of The Man From U.N.C.L.E and Tom Hooper’s The Danish Girl.

The Circle is based on a 2013 novel by Dave Eggers, and tells the story of a college graduate (Vikander) who lands a job at a tech-producing company, before she catches the eye, and affections, of the owner, played by Hanks.
